Find Lincoln County Criminal Cases

Filed charges and their legal outcomes belong in the court file, not the arrest report. To search Lincoln County criminal court cases, begin with the clerk of the trial court and identify the court level, party, and filing period. The public docket can locate a setting, while a Lincoln County criminal case search for pleadings, a register of actions, judgment, or sentence requires a document request. Colorado provides no free statewide trial-document portal. The clerk remains the official source when a charge changed, a case closed, or an online calendar shows too little detail.

Lincoln County Criminal Court Cases

Lincoln County Combined Court houses District Court and County Court at 103 Third Avenue in Hugo. District Court hears felonies and other district-level criminal proceedings. County Court handles misdemeanors, traffic matters, lower offenses, and preliminary felony proceedings. Both use the Combined Court clerk at P.O. Box 128, Hugo, CO 80821, and 719-743-2455.

Limon Municipal Court is separate. It handles alleged Limon ordinance and municipal violations at 100 Civic Center Drive. It does not replace Combined Court for state felony or misdemeanor prosecutions. Start with the charge source: a town-code matter may remain in Limon, while a Colorado criminal charge moves through the county courts in Hugo.

Lincoln County Registers by Email

The Lincoln Combined Courts records channel accepts requests at lincolnrecordsrequest@judicial.state.co.us. Use the official Judicial Record/Document Request Form and choose Lincoln as the court location. Give the case number when known. If it is not known, provide the party name and enough detail for the clerk to search. Asking first for the register of actions gives a dated index of the case and helps identify which documents matter.

For a useful outcome record, name the complaint or information, judgment or disposition, and sentencing order. A broad request for “the whole file” may cost more and can slow review, especially when an older file must be retrieved off site. Court hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The official Colorado Judicial record request page supplies the current submission form.

The request fields help the clerk estimate cost and deliver the exact Lincoln County criminal case documents sought.

Lincoln County Dockets Are Calendars

A docket search can show the court or location, date, time, case number, party or attorney display, event type, division or courtroom, and judicial officer when scheduled. It does not show every past event, the charging document, motion text, plea terms, or the final sentence. Treat the docket as a locator, not the complete Lincoln County criminal court record.

If a name does not appear, the hearing may not be set, the spelling may differ, the case may be sealed, or the file may be older and off site. Contact the clerk rather than turning to an unofficial people-search service. A $5 name-search estimate applies when the case number is unknown. Copies are estimated at $0.25 per page, certification is $20, and off-site retrieval is charged at actual cost. Call for an estimate before sending payment.

Note: Saturday bond hearings are held at 2:00 p.m., but a hearing calendar still does not replace the filed case record.

Inside a Lincoln County Case File

The register of actions is the spine of a Lincoln County criminal case. It lists filings and events in date order. The complaint or information identifies charges the prosecutor actually filed. Orders show court rulings. The judgment records the result, and the sentencing order states the court's consequence and conditions. Read those sources together because the arrest charge may differ from the filed charge.

Older Lincoln County Case Labels

On January 14, 2025, Lincoln County joined the new 23rd Judicial District with Douglas and Elbert Counties. Before that date, Lincoln belonged to the 18th Judicial District. Older forms, opinions, and search results may still use the former label. That historic tag is a search clue, not proof that the record belongs with a different county clerk.

For a pre-2025 case, tell the Combined Court clerk the party name, approximate filing year, old district label, and any case number found. Some old files may require off-site retrieval. Current court, probation, interpreter, and records links should come from the present Lincoln County page rather than an indexed legacy page.

How a Lincoln County Criminal Case Moves

A criminal case can begin with an arrest or summons, but the court file takes shape when a prosecutor files a complaint or information, or a grand jury returns an indictment. The first appearance addresses custody and bond. Advisement or arraignment states the charges and takes a plea. Motions and pretrial settings follow. A plea or trial leads to judgment, then sentencing if there is a conviction.

Case flow: Charges Filed › Arraignment › Pretrial › Plea or Trial › Disposition › Sentencing

Read the final result charge by charge. One count can be dismissed while another results in a conviction. A deferred judgment is a guilty plea with judgment delayed during conditions and may lead to dismissal after successful completion. An acquittal is a not-guilty result. These terms describe the court outcome, not the earlier booking allegation.

Reading Lincoln County Charge Classes

Lincoln County registers may abbreviate a class as F4, M1, or petty offense. “F” denotes a felony class heard in District Court. “M” denotes a misdemeanor generally heard in County Court. A petty offense may be heard in County Court or municipal court, depending on the law charged. The offense date and exact statute matter because Colorado reforms and special sentencing rules can change the range.

Information
A formal criminal charge filed by the prosecutor.
Arraignment
The hearing where charges are stated and a plea is taken.
Disposition
The result of a charge, such as conviction, dismissal, or acquittal.
Deferred judgment
A plea with judgment delayed while the person completes court conditions.
Sentence
The consequence ordered after a conviction.

A booking record may show an initial charge class that later changes. The filed complaint and final judgment control the court-case answer.

Case Record Access and Restrictions

Colorado court records are governed by Chief Justice Directive 05-01 and related law. Public access is broad but not absolute. Sealed cases, juvenile matters, protected victim and minor details, private identifiers, and certain addresses are withheld or redacted. Investigative material may belong to the sheriff or another agency rather than the court file.

Colorado uses sealing as the normal adult record-clearing term. The Judicial Branch provides current forms for automatic and petition-based paths. The official Seal My Case page organizes those guides and forms.

The forms distinguish adult sealing from juvenile expungement and from the separate process for ending registration duties.

Checking a Lincoln County Automatic Seal

A missing public case may be sealed rather than lost. Colorado Judicial offers a defendant-only search that confirms automatic sealing under C.R.S. §13-3-117. It does not serve as a public case search and does not confirm every type of sealing order. A person checking their own case should compare the confirmation with the clerk's record and retain any order.

The official automatic-sealing confirmation form is the proper Judicial Branch channel for that limited check.
